Two weeks ago, I went on a field trip with my son and his 8th grade class to New York. We got to tour the Intrepid Museum, did some shopping at South Seaport and visit Ground Zero. It is amazing how the crew manuevered through the Intrepid in such small spaces. The best part of the trip was Ground Zero. When we first arrived, I took a photograph of the Freedom Tower but it was so cloudy that you could barely see the top of the building. As we were walking to the entrance, two fire trucks arrived around the corner. As we were walking to the entrance, we did not think anything of it until half the group got in and the other half didn't. After a few minutes, they told us that we had to evacuate because of an unattended luggage. We were all unhappy because now we were not sure if we would get to go in or not. After waiting for 45 minutes, they told us that we could go in. It was so surreal. I had never gone to see the World Trade Centers up close before they collasped but to see the pools was just amazing. As we were walking around, the clouds moved away and the blue skies came in with a little bit of sun peaking out. I was then able to get the top of the Freedom Tower. As we were waiting for the bus to pick us up, the clouds had moved back in and covered the tower once again. It was so eerie. If you ever get a chance to visit New York, I highly recommend a trip to Ground Zero.
